The young woman asked if they could help her cross to the other side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"38d5\">The two monks glanced at one another because they had taken vows not to touch a woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0afe\">Then, without a word, the older monk picked up the woman, carried her across the river, placed her gently on the other side, and carried on his journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"af09\">The younger monk couldn\u2019t believe what had just happened. After rejoining his companion, he was speechless, and an hour passed without a word between them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"db3b\">Two more hours passed, then three, finally the younger monk could contain himself any longer, and blurted out \u201cAs monks, we are not permitted a woman, how could you then carry that woman on your shoulders?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"b5c5\">The older monk looked at him and replied, \u201cBrother, I set her down on the other side of the river, why are you still carrying her?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"takeaways\">Takeaways<\/h2>\n\n\n<p id=\"3123\">The story imparts several lessons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3123\">Firstly, it underscores the importance of letting go of past actions and decisions, emphasizing that dwelling on them can hinder our present and future interactions.
